Measuring
How do I measure an area?
Tap Area, choose Tap points, then tap each corner on the map. The shape closes after three corners. Drag a corner to adjust it, or tap the small dot in the middle of a side to add a corner there.
How accurate is it?
On satellite imagery, usually within a few feet, depending on the imagery and where you place points. Zoom in close for the best results. It’s an estimate, not a legal survey.
How do I change units?
Tap the number at the top while measuring, or go to More › Units. Choose acres and feet or hectares and meters, or fix a specific unit.
Walking a boundary
How does walk mode work?
Tap Area, choose Walk the boundary, and tap Start walking. Walk along the edge; your path is recorded as you go, even with the screen locked. Tap Finish when you’re back at the start.
The walked shape looks off. Why?
GPS is less accurate near tall trees, buildings or deep valleys. Check the accuracy shown while recording (a few meters is good), walk at a steady pace, and adjust any corner afterwards by dragging it.
Walk mode isn’t available.
AreaMap needs location access. Go to Settings › AreaMap › Location and choose While Using the App.
Maps and search
Why isn’t Look Around available here?
Apple’s street-level imagery covers many cities but not every road. The 3D satellite view works almost everywhere: tap 3D.
Can I search by coordinates?
Yes. Type them into the search bar, like 41.88, -87.63 or 41°52′43″N 87°37′47″W.
Saving and exporting
Which export formats are there?
PDF report, KML (Google Earth), GPX, GeoJSON, CSV and image. Open a saved measurement and tap Export.
How do I move my measurements to a new iPhone?
They come with you when you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup. You can also export them as files.
Subscription
How do I cancel?
Go to Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › AreaMap and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or current period ends to avoid being charged for the next one.
I already subscribed. How do I restore it?
Go to More › Restore purchases, or tap Restore on the paywall. Use the same Apple ID you subscribed with.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your data
Where is my data stored?
On your iPhone only. There’s no account or server. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Delete measurements in the app (swipe left in Saved), or delete AreaMap to remove everything.
